Outdoor Fireplaces & Fire Pits in Raleigh, NC

Total Masonry builds brick and stone outdoor fireplaces and fire pits for homeowners in Raleigh, North Raleigh, Wake Forest and nearby Triangle communities. A fire feature can give a patio a clear gathering point, but its placement, proportions and relationship to the house deserve as much attention as the masonry finish. We help you plan a space that feels comfortable for conversation and everyday use.

Fireplace or fire pit?

An outdoor fireplace creates a strong vertical focal point and a defined front-facing seating area. A fire pit encourages people to gather around the fire and can work well with an open patio layout. Think about the number of seats, the view from the house and how people will move between the fire feature, dining area and garden. The best choice is the one that fits the way you use your yard, rather than simply the largest structure that will fit.

Brick, stone and finishing details

Brick brings warm color and an orderly joint pattern; natural stone offers variation in texture, shape and tone. Compare samples with your home and existing patio. Hearth edges, caps, wood-storage openings and adjoining seat walls should look like parts of the same design. Careful cuts and consistent joints make a difference around openings and prominent corners. Photographs of completed work can help you identify the scale and style you prefer.

Plan the whole patio, not just the fire feature

Leave comfortable routes around chairs and between entrances, cooking areas and steps. Consider prevailing breezes, nearby trees, changes in grade and where water travels. Discuss the intended fuel type and the requirements of the selected fire system early in planning, because these affect the layout and installation. We review the property and proposed scope before settling the details; an attractive finish should be supported by a suitable structure and thoughtful site preparation.

Masonry craftsmanship and care

The exterior masonry, fire opening and hearth each have different jobs. Materials and construction need to suit their exposure and intended use. Keep drainage paths clear, use cleaners appropriate for the brick or stone, and follow the fire system instructions for operation and maintenance. If you notice loose masonry, open mortar joints or movement, have the cause assessed before covering it with a cosmetic repair.

Discuss your outdoor gathering space

Share photos of your yard, the existing patio and examples of the look you like. We can discuss a standalone fireplace or fire pit, or plan it with a patio, seat walls and outdoor kitchen.
