Indoor & Sunroom Fireplaces in Raleigh, NC

Total Masonry creates brick and stone fireplace surrounds for living rooms and sunrooms in Raleigh, North Raleigh, Wake Forest and nearby Triangle communities. An indoor fireplace is part of the room’s architecture. Its proportions, hearth and materials should work with the furnishings, windows and everyday paths through the space. We discuss the masonry scope and the existing fireplace or selected appliance before settling the design.

Brick or stone for the room

Brick offers a familiar pattern and warm texture, while natural stone brings variation in color, shape and surface. Compare material samples in the actual room, where daylight and lamps can change their appearance. A simple surround may suit a smaller space; a taller feature needs careful proportions. Coordinate the masonry with the floor, trim and nearby outdoor views rather than choosing a finish from a small image alone.

Hearths, mantels and finishing details

Think about the hearth edge, transitions to the floor and how the masonry meets adjoining walls. Discuss the intended mantel and any nearby cabinetry before installation. The selected fireplace system’s requirements determine appropriate clearances and materials. Masonry details should fit those requirements instead of relying on appearance alone. Carefully planned cuts and mortar joints help openings, corners and edges look intentional.

Planning a sunroom fireplace

Sunrooms often have more glass, different wall construction and limited uninterrupted space. Consider views, furniture placement and access between the house and yard. Confirm the room conditions, supporting structure and appliance requirements before adding a heavy masonry feature. Share photographs and any equipment information early so the fireplace finish can be planned together with the rest of the room.

Existing fireplaces and masonry updates

Updating a surround differs from installing a new fireplace system. We review the existing masonry and proposed finish to discuss what can be retained and what needs attention. Cracks, loose material or signs of water entry deserve assessment before being covered. A cosmetic masonry update does not replace inspection or servicing of the fire system. Coordinate any appliance or venting work with the appropriate qualified professional.
